The Community Peace Celebration was founded in response to violence that occurred in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul in 1996, a traveling Peace Pole with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in four languages visited 30 neighborhood sites. In June of 1997, the first Community Peace Celebration (CPC) was held. It brought healing words from community leaders along with music and dance by local performers - including FNVW Board Memeber John Ewu - to cultivate the meaning of Peace and a shared vision of cooperative relationships. The CPC has evolved into a network of neighbors, community organizations, local businesses, artists and youth utilizing their superpowers for peace in one space. This powerful convening seeks to disrupt cycles of oppression, violence, and poverty through art, community health, education, youth empowerment, and reconciliation discussions. | | | |
