| We champion nonviolence as the foundation for effective programs and actions to promote the dignity of every human being. | | | Note from Executive Director | | | | | | Today is Armistice Day which is also known as Veteran's Day. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month we collectively pause to observe the end of WWI in 1918. Though a war may end, the scars it leaves behind are with us forever. This weekend, “Bodacious Brucie” Hawkins and “Mighty Mike” Dunfee facilitated our first Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) Workshop at the Eagle’s Healing Nest in Sauk Centre, MN. The Eagle’s Healing Nest is an intentional community for veterans, service members and their families who suffer from the invisible wounds of war. The community building nature of the three-day AVP workshop provided a powerful, healing space for Eagle’s Healing Nest residents to develop their conflict management skills using personal experiences, problem-solving techniques and experiential exercises. I can think of no better way to honor our Veterans and the sacrifices they’ve made than to provide support for them after they’ve returned from service. You can help FNVW continue to offer AVP workshops at the Eagle’s Healing Nest by making a gift to FNVW on Give to the Max Day, volunteering at the FNVW Holiday Fair, or by becoming an AVP Facilitator (the next AVP Workshop is Nov. 19-21). Read on to learn about these opportunities and more! Skills like these are a key component of re-imagining public safety and building the healthy, connected communities we all need to thrive. During Give to the Max Day 2021, FNVW needs to raise $4,000 so we can engage new community members in our programs. | | | | We need your help to meet our goal! Please encourage your friends and family members to donate to FNVW now through November 18th for Give to the Max Day at givemn.org.
